DA: Ex-administrator for pediatric practice sentenced in $3.1 million theft

January 9, 2019 – A Selden man convicted of embezzling more than $3 million from his employer was sentenced Wednesday to 3 to 9 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Peter Singh, 43, who pleaded guilty to grand larceny Nov. 7 in Nassau County Court in Mineola, also must pay a civil judgment of $3.1 million — the amount he stole from Five Towns Pediatric in Woodmere and Bellmore from 2010 to 2018, according to the office of Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas.

In pleading guilty, Singh admitted using his position as an administrator at the medical practice to access payroll and bank accounts and embezzle the money through various schemes, prosecutors said.

Singh was arrested May 15 about four months after doctors who owned Five Towns Pediatric hired a forensic accountant and a bookkeeper to find out why there were discrepancies in the payroll, prosecutors said. He was fired before his arrest.

As the administrator, prosecutors said, Singh was given unsupervised control over the medical practice’s human resources functions, including payroll, 401(k) administration and the hiring of support staff.

Prosecutors said Singh, whose annual salary was $138,000, gave himself pay raises totaling $1,126,800; added his wife and stepdaughter to the company’s payroll, even though the women didn’t work there; and authorized transfer of funds, totaling $1,726,791 and $136,053 for them, respectively. Then, prosecutors said, Singh had the money directed into his accounts.

Singh also set up a bogus company, RSS of NY, and steered $29,602 to it, but the funds went to him, prosecutors said. Singh also used money from the practice’s bank account to make payments for his high-end Lexus and his 401(k) loans, totaling another $83,517, authorities said.
